That’s a great question!

Since starting Evansville Culinary Tours in March of 2017 I’ve been asked a lot of questions about food and tours and restaurants. Here are just a few:

Are there any tips to help us decide what to order when trying out a new restaurant?

When an item on the menu is named after the owner, or after the restaurant itself, go with that. Nine times out of ten it will be wonderful.

Such is the case at Angelo’s Restaurant on the downtown walkway and his namesake dish, Chicken Ala Angelo. We had it on a recent tour and I overheard many people say they would return and order his namesake dish again.

This Chicken Ala Angelo is a tour-sized tasting -- one-third the size of a regular portion.

How did you come up with the Chocolate Tours and how did they go over?

One of the food tour sites I follow online said a chocolate tour was their most popular tour. That was enough to give it a try. About that same time TED: Trolley of Evansville Districts came into play. The first chocolate tour started on Franklin Street, took us to Haynie’s Corner and back again.

Foodistas were blown away by the selection of chocolate on the tour.

At The Dapper Pig, our table of twelve was momentarily speechless with delight over the perfectly cooked sirloin steak draped with a savory, spicy chocolate nib sauce on a bed of creamy hash browned potatoes and roasted asparagus spears (shown at right).

At Kite & Key Cafe we were greeted with a table full of chocolate desserts, coffee and peach smoothies.

Not that we needed more, but we ventured on for a tasting of the world’s best chocolate ice cream at Milk & Sugar Scoop Shoppe and then for decadent chocolate cake and fresh coffee at Maiden’s Brewery.

I’d venture to say the chocolate tours will probably become ECT’s most popular tours, as well.

What’s next on the tour schedule?

It’s a lunch tour on Franklin Street on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 A.M. We will start at Maiden’s Brewery with appetizers, then walk over to Franklin Street Pizza Factory for their fantastic, thin-crust pizza and to see their newly remodeled digs. Across the street at Smitty’s Italian Restaurant we’ll have pasta done right by Chef Romi and his team. Kite & Key Cafe will spoil us wonderfullywith amazing desserts and coffee drinks.

This is a great tour to end our season in style. Cheryl
